Hairless Cat Breeds

There have been reports about hairless cats all over the world but the hairless cat breeds are relatively new. Hairless cat breeds are not the most common choice of a cat breed but they have become very popular lately despite their unusual appearance and sensitivity.

Sphynx was the first successfully bred hairless breed and is probably the most famous of all hairless cat breeds. The first Sphynx was born to a domestic cat in Canada and was proven a natural mutation. Although the breed is classified as hairless the cats might not be completely hairless. Sphynx might be covered with thin and very soft hair which is said to feel like a warm peach. They are described as extroverted, intelligent, inquisitive and devoted to their owners. Due to lack of coat their are suitable only for indoor live.

Don Sphynx is a hairless cat breed originating from Russia. Despite its resemblance to Sphynx the breeds are not related.

Peterbald is a hairless cat breed of Russian origin which was developed by crossing between a Don Sphynx and Oriental Shorthair. They are very elegant, slim and muscular cats and are very friendly and affectionate. Like other hairless cat breeds Peterbalds are not appropriate for outdoors.

Ukrainian Levkoy is one of the most unusual cat breeds. Apart from being hairless the breed is distinctive for dog like appearance and folded ears.
